Good day and
thank you for visiting
Illona De Wit Attorneys
I am Illona de Wit, the founder of Illona De Wit Attorneys. As a certified attorney, conveyancer and notary, I am passionate about providing the highest quality of advice and service tailored to the individual needs of my clients.
Qualifications and academic background
Born and raised in the Western Suburbs of Port Elizabeth, I attended Hoërskool Framesby and, thereafter, the University of Port Elizabeth (now Nelson Mandela University). With hard work and dedication I have excelled academically in the following qualifications:
- Baccalaureus Legum Cum Laude (LLB degree) – Awarded by UPE 23 April 2004
- Admitted as an Attorney and Conveyancer at Grahamstown High Court – 30 March 2006
- Admitted as a Notary at Grahamstown High Court on 22 November 2007
- Obtained a diploma with distinction in Deceased Estates Practice through Unisa
Professional experience
The very same work ethic that enabled me to succeed in my studies, I have carried through into my practice as a notary, conveyancer and attorney. I am passionate about administering estates, conveyancing related matters and doing Antenuptial contracts. Moreover, I am dedicated to going the extra mile for every one of my clients, every time.
While I have about 7 years experience working in private practice; it is in 2020, after taking a hiatus to start a family, that I made the decision to establish my own legal practice in Port Elizabeth. At my boutique law firm, I specialise in a select range of services.
Personal experience
Specialising in fewer services allows me to focus my professional efforts; whilst still being a loving wife to my husband, Niel, and nurturing mother to my two children.
I share the sentiments expressed in this Forbes article:
Work was important to me. Having a baby didn’t change that. But it did change how I worked and why I worked. And so I embarked on the journey of entrepreneurship and building work that was more flexible and important to me.

Indeed, my roles as a wife and mother enable me to be a more compassionate and caring lawyer. Having my own family has strengthened my family values; refined my time-management skills; as well as given me better insight into family dynamics and relationships. It is no co-incidence that the areas of law that are important to me today are those that are orientated around life’s milestones, such as marrying, buying a house, or bidding farewell to a deceased loved one.
No matter what service you require, you can be assured that as a lawyer with heart, I will always do my very best to add value every step of the way.
I truly look forward to hearing from you, please feel free to contact me.
